As a general rule, Galarm rings alarms based on the current timezone of the alarm creator. The alarm type (personal alarm, group alarm, or buddy alarm) does present some interesting cases that Galarm handles with common-sense. But, please do contact us at galarm@acintyo.com if anything is confusing.
Before going into details, here is a summary of how time zones are handled in Galarm:
- For Alarm Creator: The alarm rings based on the current timezone of the creator, even If the creator switches time zones from when they created the alarm.
- For Alarm Participants: The participant alarms are adjusted to ring based on the current timezone of the creator.
Let's a take a personal alarm example that most of you might wonder -- if you create an alarm for 11 AM while you were in US Eastern Time (EST), then the alarm will ring at 11 AM EST for you. If you were to now move to US Central Time (CST), then the alarm will ring at 11 AM CST (i.e., Galarm follows you).
We will use another example to explain how time zones are handled in Galarm for alarm creator and alarm participants across various alarm types. Consider the following setup:
- To begin with, Creator and Participant are in the same timezone (say EST).
- Personal alarm: Creator created the alarm to ring at 11 AM. The time between participant alerts is 15 minutes (i.e., your backup alarm participant will be alerted at 11:15 AM EST)
- Buddy alarm: Creator created the alarm to ring for someone else to ring at 11 AM EST. The creator is to be reminded after 15 minutes.
The below table indicates the time at which the alarm will ring for the creator and the participant in various different cases:
